Copilot is a Microsoft generative AI service. Copilot AI services have four distinct versions: Copilot (Personal), Copilot (Enterprise), Copilot for Microsoft 365, and Copilot Studio. Copilot also has the ability to generate images based on text prompts. Under BYU's Microsoft A3 licensing, the university has access to Copilot Enterprise, but does not currently have access to Copilot for Microsoft 365, Copilot Studio, and Azure AI Studio. Evaluations are being conducted on these addtional services.

This service is conditionally approved. This means that some, but not all, Microsoft Copilot AI products are approved or available. Refer to the table below for more information.

Copilot Enterprise provides commercial data protection. According to BYU's contractual agreement, Copilot Enterprise should not store or use data entered into the service to train AI language models.

However, Nonpublic Institutional Data should not be entered or shared through Microsoft Copilot chat.
